The Rogue vs. the Murano

The Nissan Rogue and the Nissan Murano are both appealing SUVs with quite a few unique strengths. The Nissan Rogue is a compact model while the Murano is a larger mid-size vehicle and both provide comfortable seating. Both SUVs can tow up to 1500 pounds and both provide plenty of room for cargo. The Murano is faster and while the Rogue gives you better fuel economy. Here are some of the other key differences between these two first-rate SUVs to help you decide which one to buy at Nielsen Nissan in Stanhope, NJ.

A comparison of engines and performance

The new Nissan Rogue is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that's good for 201 horsepower. The Rogue operates with a continuously variable transmission and can make the run from zero to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds. Front-wheel drive is the standard offering and Nissan's all-wheel drive system is an available option on the new Rogue.  Meanwhile, the 2024 Nissan Murano operates with a larger, more powerful 3.5-liter V6 that can generate 260 horsepower.

The new Nissan Murano can travel a little faster than the Rogue, reaching 60 mph in about 7.0 seconds and hitting a top speed of 120 mph. While the Murano delivers faster acceleration, the Rogue gives you better fuel economy. A front-wheel drive version of the Rogue gets 30 miles with every gallon in the city and 37 MPG on New Jersey highways. The more powerful Nissan Murano can still give Hackettstown and Parsippany-Troy Hills drivers solid fuel efficiency at up to 20 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway.

A comparison of interiors and comfort

The Nissan Rogue has an attractive interior and offers available quilted leather seats in a distinctive Chestnut color. The Rogue is a compact crossover that gives you seating for five and thoughtfully designed storage cubbies. Available interior accessories include a seat back organizer to help manage your cargo. Available interior features in the new Rogue include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and three-zone automatic climate control.

The Murano can also seat five in its mid-size configuration and gives you standard heated outboard rear seats in the SL and Platinum models. The Murano offers upscale amenities like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and comfortable leatherette seats. Heated front seats are a standard feature on most trims and a heated steering wheel comes standard on the SL and Platinum models. The interior can be customized with 60/40 split-folding rear seats that create extra space for groceries or camping gear.

A comparison of dimensions

The more compact 2024 Nissan Rogue is 183 inches long which makes it easier for Morristown drivers to move in and out of a parking space. The maximum cargo capacity in the Rogue is 37 cubic feet when the rear seat is up. The Murano is longer than the Rogue, coming in at 192.8 inches and the cargo volume measures 32.1 cubic feet when the back seat is in the up position. Both these Nissan SUVs can tow up to 1500 pounds which is enough to pull a small trailer with dirt bikes.

Safety features

Both the Nissan Rogue and the Murano come with reassuring safety features. An automatic emergency braking system, for example, includes pedestrian detection that can stop either SUV and help prevent a collision. Nissan's blind-spot monitoring can alert you when it senses another vehicle driving into an adjacent place on the road that you can't easily see.
